Tirta Gangga: A Royal Water Garden Oasis Guide

Welcome to Tirta Gangga, a breathtaking water palace in eastern Bali, Indonesia. This former royal palace is a stunning blend of Balinese and Chinese architecture, featuring intricate stone carvings, lush gardens, and serene pools. Tirta Gangga, meaning "water from the Ganges," was built in 1948 by the late King of Karangasem, Anak Agung Anglurah Ketut Karangasem Agung. The king, a skilled architect and engineer, personally oversaw the design and construction, incorporating elements of Balinese Hinduism and Chinese influences. Sadly, the palace was partially destroyed during the eruption of Mount Agung in 1963, but it has since been meticulously restored to its former glory. Visitors to Tirta Gangga can enjoy a variety of activities. Stroll through the meticulously landscaped gardens, admire the intricate statues and fountains, and feed the colorful koi fish that inhabit the pools. For a truly unique experience, take a dip in one of the two public swimming pools fed by the sacred springs (small entrance fee applies). The palace also offers excellent photo opportunities, so be sure to bring your camera. While there isn't a specific culinary tradition directly tied to Tirta Gangga, nearby Amed offers delicious Balinese cuisine, particularly fresh seafood.
